MPH Program Description:

Program Description:
The Department of Health Science offers a degree program leading to a Master of Public Health (MPH) in Community Health Education. This graduate program began in the Fall of 1996, was initially credentialed in 2000, and in 2003 received full accreditation by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) through December 31, 2010. Our mission: To provide academic, professional, and service excellence in preparing community health education professionals who will demonstrate competent leadership innovation, and technical expertise at local, state, national and international levels, in particular with border health problems in communities along the U.S./Mexico border. The MPH Program at NMSU is a participating member of the Returning Peace Corp Volunteer graduate educational program. New Mexico State University is located in the fertile Mesillia Valley, between the Majestic Organ Mountains and the Rio Grande, close to skiing, wilderness areas, and Old Mexico.

Program Description/Overview:
The Division of Public Health is one of four primary organizational entities within the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine. The Public Health Program within this Division has played a major role in education, research, and service within the School of Medicine for the past 35 years.
To date, the Public Health Program has over 900 graduates employed in a variety of public health, health care, research, and related settings. There are currently 143 active graduate students within the MPH, MSPH, MSTAT - Biostatistics Track, and PhD degree programs.
