About AAPHP

AAPHP is an incorporated 501(c)3 organization which provides member programs with a legally constituted entity.  AAPHP originally provided representation for health education and the behavioral and social science programs, but expanded its mission so that today AAPHP represents all interested accredited MPH programs with a strong focus on the preparation of public health practitioners.  AAPHP’s overall mission is to support, represent, and advance current and emerging accredited public health programs in preparing a competent public health workforce and advancing the science and practice of population-based health.

AAPHP Mission Statement:

The Association of Accredited Public Health Programs supports, represents, and advances current and emerging accredited public health programs in preparing a competent public health workforce and advancing the science and practice of population-based health.


AAPHP Principles:

To accomplish the AAPHP mission, the Association is guided by the following public health principles.

    Public Health:

  • Is a global phenomenon
  • Requires competency-based graduate and undergraduate preparation
  • Values diverse and culturally competent workforce
  • Prioritizes the elimination of health disparities
  • Benefits from ecological perspectives
  • Focuses on applied practice
  • Is committed to ethical research and practice
  • Is advanced through mentoring, collaboration, and program-centered development


AAPHP Goals:

  • Enhance the public’s health by fostering and promoting the value of CEPH-accredited public health programs that prepare competent public health leaders and practitioners at the graduate and undergraduate levels
  • Enhance training and research funding opportunities for accredited public health programs
    Create linkages with public and private sector agencies that support the education, research, and service interests of accredited public health programs
  • Provide a vehicle for collective representation of accredited public health programs to credentialing bodies
  • Represent accredited public health programs on agency governing bodies that develop, monitor, and evaluate professional and academic standards and competencies
  • Act as a resource for and support to accredited public health programs
    Promote educational, professional, and collaborative opportunities for public health programs and their faculty and students
  • Facilitate collaborative and consultative opportunities with national and international agencies and organizations to promote the health of the public
  • Encourage and support qualifying for accreditation by non-accredited graduate and undergraduate public health programs
