Welcome to the Council of Accredited MPH Programs

The Council of Accredited MPH Programs (CAMP) was established in 1999 with the mission to enhance the public's health by fostering and promoting Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) accreditation for MPH programs for the development of the public health workforce.
CAMP was formed to promote communication, networking and collaboration among accredited MPH Programs and to create linkages with public and private sector agencies.  In particular, CAMP was developed to facilitate collaborative and consultative opportunities with national and international agencies and to work cooperatively with other professional associations.

In promoting the standards associated with public health accreditation, CAMP also has a major commitment of encouraging and supporting higher education institutions to seek and maintain CEPH accreditation.

There are several important benefits of CAMP membership.  CAMP activities include:

·         sponsoring specific workshops and sessions regarding current issues of CEPH accreditation,

·         representing and advocating for programs on accreditation and credentialing boards,

·         holding regular meetings to address priorities and concerns of CEPH accredited programs,

·         providing networking opportunities through co-sponsorship of sessions at national and international scholarly conferences,

·         sharing strategies for materials to maximize a successful self-study,

·         advocating for greater involvement with national public health entities for program support and networking (e.g., representation at the CDC Leaders to Leaders Conference; serving as a member of the Council on Linkages Between Academia and Public Health Practice), and

·         engaging in research that identifies the program and student characteristics of CEPH-accredited MPH programs.

Message from the President
CAMP President Gary D. Gilmore, MPH, PhD, CHES discusses CAMP’s composition and direction.

Spring 2007

Greetings.  I am pleased to provide this update to you so that you can review the notable work of the Council of Accredited MPH Programs (CAMP).

During the early part of 2007, we increased our membership to 27 CEPH-accredited MPH programs across the nation, with the potential for others joining as they become accredited.  In addition, CAMP is now incorporated to provide the accredited programs with a legally consituted organization with a primary mission of advancing the Goals of the accredited Progams.  As context, CAMP originally focused on health education and the behavioral and social science programs, but has been expanding its mission as the CEPH-accredited Programs seek an organization that has representation of the Programs as its primary mission.  Today, CAMP represents all interested MPH Programs, with a strong focus on the preparation of public health practitioners.  As included in the incorporation process, the primary goals of the Council of Accredited MPH Programs are: “a) to enhance the public’s health by fostering and promoting the value of CEPH accredited public health programs that prepare public health leaders and practitioners and their respective institutions for the development of the public health workforce and for the health of the public; and b) to do everything necessary, proper, advisable or convenient to enhance the public’s health for the accomplishment of the Council’s purposes and goals and to do all other things incidental or connected to them that are not forbidden by these Articles of Incorporation, the Act, the Code or any other law;” (Articles of Incorporation of Council of Accredited MPH Programs, Government of the District of Columbia, 2007).
