Message from the President

CAMP President Daniel L. Bibeau, MPH, PhD, CHES discusses CAMP's current activities and direction

January 2010

As I begin my second term as President of CAMP, I am excited about our future. Let's take a look at the CAMP mission and how we are progressing. Since 1995, CAMP has served as a voice for accredited MPH programs.

The mission of the Council of Accredited MPH Programs is to enhance the public's health by fostering and promoting the interests of accredited MPH programs and their respective institutions.

I would like to thank the out going leadership for their dedication and hard work during these past two years. It was through their continued efforts and commitment to advancing the programs that CAMP was able to accomplish goals that are helping us meet our mission; here are some of the highlights.

  • CAMP received its 501 (c)(3) designation from the IRS.
  • Held the largest annual meeting in recent history during the SOPHE and APHA annual meetings during November, in Philadelphia, PA. Minutes from the meeting can be found here.
  • Represented the programs at the CDC 2008 and 2009 Leaders-to-Leaders Conferences.
  • Co-sponsored the Health Education Advocacy Summit in Washington, D.C, in February 2009. Several member institutions brought students and represented CAMP at the Summit.
  • Co-sponsored the Galway Consensus Conference, to promote dialogue and an exchange of understanding among international partners regarding domains of core competency, standards, and quality assurance mechanisms in the professional preparation and practice of health promotion and health education specialists. Multiple CAMP members attended the conference and their voices were heard.
  • Co-sponsored multiple webinars on issues of current interest to members and public health professionals.
  • CAMP's immediate Past-President, Dr. Gary Gilmore, has continued to represent us on the Council of Linkages.
CAMP continues to advocate for the accredited MPH programs and to gain a greater voice in matters affecting professional preparation, credentialing, and professional development. This is an exciting time for the organization as we build our membership with colleagues committed to the development and support of MPH programs.

As with any organization that seeks to make a difference, its vibrancy and impact is driven by the members. The current 24 accredited MPH programs that comprise the membership are fully committed to preparing skilled public health practitioners, while advocating for greater opportunities for collaboration, networking, and sustainability.

The Executive Committee (EC) of CAMP welcomes input and participation from our members. The EC and member delegates are the people who drive the advancement of the programs as a unified group. Together we continue to make a difference in professional preparation, credentialing, and professional development in public health. I encourage you to join us in making this difference. This is an exciting time to be in the forefront of CAMP and to place CAMP in the forefront of public health advancement! I look forward to your participation in CAMP.

Sincerely,
Daniel L. Bibeau, Ph.D.
